Donate blood! Get a free T-shirt! We frequently hear pleas to give blood to groups that will use it for those who need blood transfusions. Many people readily give blood to help those in need. They are willing to endure having a needle poked in their arm and a few quarts of blood drawn out. After a few hours of lightheadedness, they will be mostly up to par in normal physical condition and ready to face the world again. But many people also are nervous about giving blood. They may have had a bad experience fainting in the past, or don’t want a needle poking their skin, or can’t stand the thought or sight of blood, or are afraid of getting disease from needles.
That is why blood donation groups need to inform those people that giving blood is healthy, safe, and not as nerve-wracking as some make it to be. A lot of people who don’t donate blood probably would give it after a little reassurance.
Why not put together some information about donating blood? Write about the statistics of numbers of people who donate each year, the need for blood, and the number of lives saved through blood donations. Emphasize safety precautions with needles and careful training of employees to know how to locate veins and safely draw blood. Encourage people to step outside their comfort zones and give. Tell them how easy it is to give an hour or so to contribute some blood.
Once you have compiled all this information, put it all in one handy place—a USB flash drive. Anyone who’s a bit nervous or just wants to find out more can pop in the flash drive and read all about donating blood. They will hopefully realize that donating is not as traumatic an experience as they might think.
Maybe the blood donation group could set up computer kiosks, with USB drives plugged in, by their donation areas. People walking by could stop at the computers and browse through info that could convince them to donate blood. At CFgear, we can help design an appealing layout to draw people in. Technology can attract volunteers who will give to support lives. These flash drives could be the step to encourage someone who has never given blood before to give it a try.
The donation group could also use another set of bulk flash drives to keep track of donations. The drives could contain charts for recording information and for printing off to give to people. Also, the drives could have policies and volunteer manuals for everyone to read and access easily. Each group that goes out could receive a USB drive with all the info they need.
The CFgear team can print a full-color group logo onto each USB flash drive as well. These logos will help to unify the group as they split up and travel around to solicit blood donations.
Flash drives could give a blood donation group a boost in attracting donors who might never have thought about giving before. At CFgear, we can do the job and do it well!
