Fireworks and Flash Drives
I don’t know what it is about kids and fireworks, especially boys it seems, but my son has had bottle rockets and water bombs on his mind since early May. I was no different when I was his age. In fact, I recall ordering fireworks from a catalog because of its “special” products not available at your local fireworks stand of course. Don’t ask me how I paid for ‘em. Guess I must’ve mowed the lawn all summer long in exchange for my parents putting the order on their credit card.
Times are a bit different for me now. When we were at the fireworks “stand” yesterday, it was clear my excitement level was far lower than that I could detect from my son’s “I’m in Heaven” beam of awe. The stand in fact was an actual store and as it turns out it’s now in its third generation of ownership. The neat thing about “Voss’ Corner” is that they host a test show every evening for a few weeks up until the 4th of July. They of course need to see for themselves what each firework does so they can offer an accurate description to customers like my family who maybe want a lot of sizzle, sparkle and pizzazz, but not a lot of kaboom!
We did indeed put the experts on the spot, asking the owner himself if he could point us in the right direction for a firework that split off into several different little streamer like displays. Sure enough, he led us right to the “Atom Splitter”! A few days from now, we’ll see if his guidance was indeed “sparkly,” but my hunch is that he knows we’re in for a nice show.
En route to the Atom Splitter, he showed us a handful of other possibilities. We threw a few of his suggestions in our cart and passed on others. He offered a perfect blend of expertise and easy-going salesmanship. It was clear he genuinely just wanted to help us find whatever we were in search of to help celebrate our FREEDOM and INDEPENDENCE!
As we were checking out, he threw in one of the items he suggested along with the Atom Splitter. My wife thought maybe it was because we spent more than a dollar in the store (my family is frugal!), but it was quickly obvious he was just doing it because he wanted to! How sweet is that!?!? That’s the kind of service, kindness and generosity you just don’t see much anymore.
Perhaps I took note of it because that’s the way I was taught by my grandfather and uncles, business owners sincere about treating the customer with respect and kindness.
