How to Hit a Homerun!

After thousands of swings and years of persistence, my son hit his first “official” homerun! By official I mean over the fence. I can recall only one person hitting an over-the-fence homer when I was his age. That was Mike Stark! I remember thinking “Holy schmoley that guy is talented!” Times haven’t changed too much. While the number of homeruns I’ve witnessed in the town’s Little League is more than the “one” I saw years back, there haven’t been more than a half a dozen. So it is still quite a feat. And it’s still a special event for both the player and the parents!!

I’ve actually heard on occasion that a homerun is a “mistake.” An overpowering pop fly I guess? Sounds like empty chatter sponsored by those who’ve never had the privilege of running the bases without anything on their mind but the sweet sight of the ball soaring over the fence. All I know is you don’t just one day decide to pick up a baseball bat, step up to the plate, point to the outfield, and clobber the ball. Sure. I’m guessing there’s an ounce of beginners luck in the homerun universe. But for 99.9% of those who’ve enjoyed the feeling of watching their hit inspire an entire dugout to line up at home plate and give ‘em high fives, it involves a lot of guidance, practice and discipline.

It’s not really much different in the world of customized flash drives. You can’t just one day decide your organization wants customized flash drives and dag nabbit, you’re gonna hit a homer with this project! Well, wait a second now. I guess what I meant to say was hitting a homerun is possible, but you have to enlist the support of a good “designated hitter”! Like CFgear. We’ve been taking swing after swing for years now.
