Beyond Dreaming, One Must Do
I wonder what percentage of the Nation went without a mere inkling of awareness that last Monday, Jan 21st was Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. I hope the number is in the minority as Martin Luther King, Jr. was a man who dared to not only dream, but also take action for decades of inaction by the powers that be within our Nation.
The dream as we all know was to have a land of equality, regardless of a person’s “race”. And while the youth of today probably find a dream such as that to be easily achievable, the reality of realizing that dream involved much hard work and sacrifice…and in the end, even Martin Luther King, Jr’s own life.
I spend the evening last Monday watching the famous “I have a Dream” speech with my son of 12 years. If you haven’t viewed the speech ever, I encourage you to do so. It’s essential viewing if you ask me as out of the many millions of people who have come and gone and continue to live on this wonderful planet of ours, few share the same conviction and passion and willingness to do to the work than Martin Luther King, Jr. Perhaps the best way for me to give back to such a noble effort is to create a Limited Edition “I have a Dream” custom flash drive? I could preload it with the transcript and the video of the famous speech…perhaps give links to Black History month websites? It’s all one of many “dreams” of mine for making custom flash drives that speak to the many great moments in history. I’d be willing to give a percentage of proceeds to the NAACP or any Not for profit organization in need of funds to support their own dream for that matter.
