Rock and Roll Flash Drives
I was invited on to help add some flavor to the 5th Grade Graduation event at the local elementary school. Glad to be a part of the project too. Among the four of us on the committee, of which I was the only dad, I think we managed to put on an “a ok” show. We decided on a “Rock Star” theme…kinda Guitar Hero style I guess. That seems to be popular with the 11 year olds and about everyone actually. So we electrified the boring gymnasium with some rock star banners. My wife made some righteous rock star posters with each class having their own design. Nice going, Angie!! Another idea we decided on was to create VIP passes for the kids.

While I was hoping to offer every student a branded flash drive perhaps with their digital report card or next year’s school/event calendar preloaded on it, I had to face the reality of a short time line - like a few days. CFgear did manage to add something to the big show though. I decided to donate 100 lanyards to bring the VIP passes to life. Like I said, while it would’ve been sweet to have a bulk of branded flash drives with the school name for the 5th grade class, I figured at least getting partially close to my dream idea still counts for trying, right?
It was fun to see the kids jammin’ on with excitement! I mean, c’mon, can you just imagine for moment that RUSH of energy way back when we were that age…and the smell of “schools out for summer” in the air!! Those were the sweet ol’ days. But the times they are a changin’ as Bob Dylan says. And indeed they have changed. Back when I was in the 5th grade, there were no computers, no internet. Digital wasn’t really even a common word other than when used to describe an expensive watch. Now I admit the music back in what would’ve been the early 80’s was truly ROCKIN’ though. Big hair bands and power chords. If only they could’ve known the power of a preloaded flash drive….preloaded with the LIVE concert they just played!
Ahhh! Enough of my nostalgia. Back to the reality of the workday. Just remember next time you’re on a school planning or fund raising committee, think big. Think something like branded bulk flash drives! Or even a preloaded flash drives “rock and roll” style!
