Sturgis Rally Drive
Dag nabbit. This marks the umpteenth year in a row that I have missed the infamous Sturgis Rally. Heck I was born and raised in South Dakota so you think I’d manage to even accidentally find myself out in the area when hundreds of thousands of “born to be wild for week” folks gather together to do things like pay $10 for a cheeseburger (and another $10 for a beverage to wash it down). But no such serendipity when it comes to miles full of anti-muffled Harley Davidsons and I hanging together.
I guess that gives me another year to ponder the possibility of making the world’s “baddest” customized flash drives – the Sturgis Rally flash drive. Of course I’d go all out with the project and make sure we engineered preloaded flash drives, complete with pictures from years gone by and a bit of Rally history. Sounds like fun! And since my wheels are turning and I have some time to bring this ol’ promotional flash drive to life, I just as wheel contemplate making the drive out of materials native to the Rally – black leather and shiny chrome! I’d probably make the LED light on the flash drive look like flames were lighting up. And to make sure everyone knows loud and clear that this flash drive is definitely the official Sturgis Rally flash drive, I’ll have to figure out a way to make ‘er rumble and roar when you insert it into the computer’s usb port!
As crazy as it all sounds, I know that CFgear can make such a customized flash drive come to life and, well, I think a lot of the Sturgis Rally folks would enjoy it. Now I know some of you may be thinking “what the heck does a road wandering biker need a flash drive for?” Hah! What ya don’t know is that most of the Rally crowd nowadays is “rich” with white collar professionals, most of who end up pulling their Harley all the way to Sturgis. Or better yet, fly in to Sturgis and rent a Harley for the week. It’s getting to be more and more a chance to try on the “born to be wild” lifestyle without having to actually earn it in terms of spending life on the road and under the stars. I wonder if any of the hardcore, true to the early ways of a Harley Davidson life people even like or bother to head to Sturgis for the big event? They might frown on the commercialism and blocks of wannabes? Or maybe they don’t mind any of it. Maybe they’re delighted that so many people are flocking to just get a sample of a life they live full time.
Whatever the case, I’m gonna have to plan on making Sturgis Rally 2009 my debut. So I better get to work on the ol’ tough and rugged Sturgis Rally flash drive. That way when I show up next year on my scooter and undoubtedly inspire oodles of cackles, I’ll have some sweet customized flash drives to win all the wannabes and real road warriors over;-)
