The ARod Drive

Well the family and a friend of my son’s headed to the Minneapolis Metrodome to take in an evening of Major League baseball. Perfect night to be inside a dome too. It was 80 degrees and brilliantly perfect outside shortly before the game. Just about game time, however, the rain pounded the top of the dome producing an eerie, attention-getting sound.

While the rest of the fans seemed caught up in the possibility of the dome collapsing, I was trying to figure out the “lifestyle” distance between myself and ARod. We had sweet seats - just beyond third base, five rows up, and in actuality, within spittin’ distance from ARod.

But I wasn’t planning on projecting anything ARod’s way at all. As I said, I was more intrigued by the distance between the life I, along with thousands of other fans most likely living paycheck to paycheck just like me, live and ARod lives. I mean really now. 252 million dollars over 10 years. Yowsers! That’s hard to even fathom. But hey, can you really be anything but happy for the guy. He’s a professional within his trade. A professional that just so happened to be in the right place at the right time to arrive at such an unfathomable salary amount.

Between all my philosophizing and cracks of the bats, complete with “Get your cold beer here” and “Peanuts…Hot Dogs” banter, I as you may have guessed it, started to drift off into fantasy flash drive land. I wondered what the heck an ARod drive would consist of? Diamonds? Naw. That’s more Deon Sandersish and he didn’t last long in this sport. Leather? Maybe? But it would have to be a leather colored to match his glove. What about wood? Yes!!! An actual bat! Seemed reasonable enough. In reality CFgear can customize just about any shape, use about any material, to produce a more-personal-than-your-nameplate flash drive. Ok. So my imagination agreed to make it in the shape of a wooden baseball bat. Now it was time to decide storage capacity and a preload design. While it’s not available as standard, I decided on a 13GB as any ARod fan would know the significance of this number. Standard capacity of course is 16GB, but I’d just hide the extra 3GB somehow. Perhaps I’d offer those willing to buy the ARod drive a secret password to tap into the extra 3GB in case of low storage capacity emergency.

As far as making just the right preloaded flash drive for ARod, I was thinking of engineering an interface complete with buttons linking to Fan Club info, Statistical data (maybe linked to an RSS Feed of ARod stats). Of course I’d be willing to collaborate with the man himself in order to produce just the right branded flash drive for ARod. But I’m guessing I’d have a greater probability of making the Majors than I would ever sitting down next to ARod as his branded bulk flash drive agent.
