Key Drives
Because so much, if not all, of my blogging to date has been borderline uninteresting to the masses, I thought maybe I’d go out on a limb and talk about things in life that I think are key. That’s why I’m labeling this post key drives. Because, well, my life is surrounded with ‘bout everything related to flash drives. If they had a cheeseburger flash drive, I’d hear of it. If there was a flash drive made with all natural, biodegradable ingredients, I’d know about it (and there is one by the way!). If the actual NAND flash in the flash drive was slated to undergo some major technology advancement, I’d be on it. Ok, that’s enough. I’m sure you get the drift. So back to the keys in life part.
Key numero uno. Life is suffering. Yes. I know. That’s not an original line. ‘Tis one of the noble truths of Buddhism I do believe. And while I’m not Buddhist, I do think part of everyone’s suffering is ironically a result of thinking their life should be or is supposed to be free of suffering. I’m not saying life has to be one complete episode of suffering. But there is no such thing as a lifetime of adversity-free experiences. That would be dull anyway dag nabbit.
Key numero dos. Life is about relationships. I was taking my dog for a walk yesterday and thankfully came upon an 88-year old “gentle”man who summed ‘er all up within a matter of a few dozen footsteps. I asked him “how was life” and he responded sorrowfully but acceptingly that his wife passed away a little over a month ago and “everything about the world changes when that happens.” What you didn’t get a sense of was how positive this man remained though. He was a war veteran, experienced the great depression of course, just lost his wife and a survivor of brain cancer yet the pace at which he was moving on our walk was courageous. It was obvious that he had things in healthy perspective.
Key numero tres. Life is meant to be lived. I realize the most recent instability of the American economy has folks in a tizzy, perhaps wondering if the sun will still rise tomorrow. Well I’m here to let ya know that I’ve been to one of the poorest counties in America (on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota) and the poorest country in the Western hemisphere (Haiti) and while it’s not exactly Disneyland, the sun shines on…and the people go on living. So stop waiting for the time when you have “enough” money, enough time, enough whatever it is that’s standing between you and the life you want to live. Start living. Cause that’s what life is for. And, well, as far as I know, you only get so much time, so many chances. Unless you subscribe to reincarnation. But really now, who wants to come back as a worm?
