Cappuccino. Mocha. Latte. Espresso. Take your pick! You’ll see a wide array of multi-syllable choices up on the menu board when you walk into a coffee shop. Coffee connoisseurs want more than just caffeine or decaf, sugar and half-and-half creamers. They have refined their taste buds through years of tasting different brands, different mixes, different makes of specialty coffee drinks. They know if you’ve put in a little too much vanilla flavor or not quite enough cream.

The coffee shop is the hangout of choice for young, hip types who like to relax in a classy atmosphere where they can read or surf the internet on their laptops. Generally shops are outfit with comfortable lounge chairs and couches for people to stay for a while and chat, study, work on business, or just entertain themselves.

Often these shops will gain regular customers who come back over and over because they like the coffee that one particular shop has. They’ll always stop by on the way to work, or come by with friends on their free evenings. Workers try to develop relationships with returning customers and sometimes know what their customers want before they can open their mouths to order.

Now, when someone gets used to the coffee a particular shop sells, she expects her coffee to taste the same every time she goes back there. She’ll be able to tell if it’s different and probably won’t be happy if it doesn’t quite have the same flavor as before. And if she stops by the other branch of your shop across town, she’ll expect the same flavor there.

This poses a problem for coffee companies that are spread out over several shops. How do they ensure that their drinks are mixed up the same way in every shop? Obviously, they’ll want to make sure employees are trained extensively in technique for making specialty coffees. And they’ll want to have standard recipes that every shop has ready access to.

Why not have all the information on a computer? A coffee shop could work with CFGear to design a flash drive that could be distributed to every shop. The drive would contain recipes for all the drinks, detailing techniques for making them. Perhaps it could even have training videos for employees to learn about making coffee.

That way, when someone walks into the shop and asks for a vanilla white chocolate cappuccino, a new employee will be able to just look it up on the computer if he doesn’t know how to make that specific drink. Sure, it still takes time to learn. But the ready access to information will help to ease the training process, and helpful coworkers will be able to make sure that everything is done right.

CFGear works with companies of all types to develop flash drive solutions. And yes, they can even help a coffee shop to please those ever-so-picky customers. Mint mocha, coming right up.
